Experimental characterisation and prediction of shielding effectiveness for multilayer carbon fibre reinforced composite materials with varying configurations

This paper reports the outcomes of an experimental investigation shielding effectiveness (SE) for carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites with varying configurations. It focuses on (1) important parameters affecting SE CFRP laminates and (2) applicability transmission line (TL) theory to predict their properties. Comparison profiles showed that quasi-isotropic cross-ply configurations perform equally well in attenuating unpolarised radiation only a modest increase 10 dB is achieved by doubling number plies due increased absorption. The TL model was found be limited thin lay-up, which accuracy prediction within 5 150 MHz-1 GHz frequency range. values were also compared full wave simulation commercial electromagnetic software, demonstrating more accurate predictions than any analytical model.
